Look East was an intensive one day workshop on 5th March 2018 for ambitious Scottish digital companies looking to explore business opportunities in Asia. Details on the programme recruitment are below. 

The Asia Pacific region is home to the world’s fastest growing economies and presents a wealth of opportunity for Scottish businesses. Join us on the 5th March for an intensive one-day introduction to Asia markets and explore why your company should consider looking East for partnership, investment and sales. The workshop will focus on doing business in Singapore, often considered a gateway to the rest of Asia or ‘Asia for beginners’!

The workshop will be led by Hugh Mason, Co-founder and CEO of JDFI, Southeast Asia’s first accelerator programme for tech entrepreneurs. Hugh moved from the UK to Singapore ten years ago and has since helped over 70 businesses raise tens of millions of dollars.

The workshop will include case studies Skyscanner and Dog: two Scottish companies who “looked East”, made the leap and have seen their success soar as a result.

Look East is open to companies with ambition, working in Scotland’s digital and technology sectors. You could be a new start-up with an international outlook or an established digital business on home turf looking to explore new markets and territories.

We are encouraging companies to use this workshop to explore whether Asia would be right for your business- now or in the future. You will come away with key insights into the benefits and challenges of growing your business abroad, and the practical element of the workshop will give you a clear indication of whether your business is ready to Look East.

Hugh Mason is CEO at JFDI.Asia and Adjunct Associate Professor at National University of Singapore. Since 2012 he has co-founded, mentored or invested in more than 70 startup companies, achieving 48% IRR. Born a UK citizen, Hugh is now a Permanent Resident of Singapore.

In 2009 Hugh co-founded JFDI.Asia. As the first business accelerator in SE Asia, JFDI proved pivotal in kick-starting Singapore’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, deploying approximately USD3m into a portfolio of 70 international startups. JFDI has also supported thousands of start-up founders through its outreach programs. The second book that Hugh co-edited, Facing Down Failure, captures eight Singapore startup stories.

 

Rebecca Moore is Director of Growth for the EMEA region at Skyscanner. Becs joined Skyscanner in 2014 in a strategy and operations role. Her time at Skyscanner has seen her lead a programme reorganizing the business to its current Growth model in addition to implementing and running Skyscanner’s Asia-Pacific Growth Tribe. Prior to Skyscanner, Becs has worked in a variety of business sectors in a range of business operations and change management roles

 

Gerry McCusker is CEO at Dog, an independent digital communications agency. Since 2001, Gerry has driven the agency’s expansion from 10 to 75 staff across offices in Glasgow, London and South East Asia. Having entered the South-East Asia market back in 2012, and opening an office in Jakarta in 2015, Dog has established its position as a strategic and challenging player in the market.
