Reset is a paid eight-month traineeship within a Scottish Animation, Visual Effects (VFX) or Games company which includes full training throughout the placement

Reset is aimed at new entrants to the industry with transferable skills from all walks of life. This could include those who were working in sectors such as: retail, hospitality, travel, entertainment, events etc

Reset offers an opportunity to retrain and join Scotland’s world-class Animation, Visual Effects (VFX) and Games industries.

Working full time within their host company, successful trainees will also receive additional training throughout their placement to further their skills, giving them a gateway into a new career path.

Reset is funded by Screen Scotland via the recently established BFI National Lottery Skills Cluster Fund.

FREE Online Career Change/ Personal Development Training – Available to shortlisted Applicants

A series of FREE online training modules will be available to shortlisted applicants to the Reset programme.

These training sessions have been created to specifically aid and support you in the initial phase of career change. These bitesize video lessons, with additional resources and materials will be shared with all who attend the RESET info event or make an application to the programme.

Traineeship Programme

  • An 8 month paid (Real Living Wage) placement within one of Scotland’s leading Animation, VFX or Games companies
  • Training across a series of modules (training will be relevant to these sectors, as well as your own personal development in transferring your skills to a new career path)
  • Practical exercises will be assigned between modules to practice skills and techniques learned

If you’re a self-starter looking for a bright new challenge in one of Scotland’s thriving creative industries, then Reset is for you.

The Reset Traineeship is aimed at people who are keen to transfer the skills, experience and knowledge that they already have and plug them into a brand new industry, and future career in the Animation, VFX and Games industries.

Whether your previous jobs have seen you working in offices, bars, restaurants, shops – it does not matter.

If you are passionate, motivated, keen to learn new skills – with an active interest in Animation, Visual Effects and Games, then challenge yourself to change and press reset on your career.

Reset is a training programme aimed at retraining those with transferable skills, and placing them on a new career path within Scotland’s Animation, VFX and Games sector.

Reset is open to people from all backgrounds and will promote inclusion and diversity.

Candidates must be over 18, but there is no upper age limit, meaning that it is open to those considering a career change or returning to work.

Reset is aimed at applicants living in Scotland, as host companies will likely provide a mixture of both remote and office based working.

You cannot be in full time education when the role starts.

During the eight months traineeship TRC will deliver additional training to help Trainees with their transition into this new industry. Training will be a mixture of both Online and in person sessions.

Working with experienced trainers we will create a series of training sessions and modules specifically aimed at enhancing the existing skills of the trainees.

Training session will be customised in line with the Trainee and Companies requirements, but could include modules such as:

• Managing Crucial Conversations

• Managing Mental Health in Work

• Time Management

• Effective Team Working

• Production Management for VFX & Animation

• Budgeting & Scheduling for VFX & Animation

• IT for VFX & Animation

The salary is based on the Real Living Wage, which is currently £10.90 per hour.

All successful candidates will be given a contract from the host company that will employ them which will outline the terms of conditions of employment.

The role will be a fixed term contract for eight months from February to October 2024.

You don’t need a degree or qualifications to be eligible for Reset but applicants who have completed relevant qualifications are welcome to apply. First and foremost, we are interested in your potential and passion.

You cannot be in full time education when the traineeship starts.

Yes. You might be re-entering the workforce after time off or maybe you’ve had a period of redundancy or were unable to get a start in the subject you studied after school, college or university. As long as you permanently reside in the UK and have the right to work here then you can apply.

The application form allows you to select all of the Trainee roles that you are interested in. You only need to complete one application form. This allows you to submit an application for as many of the intern roles that you wish to.

Yes, if you are currently underemployed and have the skills for a career elsewhere then you are eligible to apply.

Not at all. There is no requirement for applicants to have previous experience or qualifications in these sectors to be eligible to apply for a Reset traineeship. The companies are specifically looking for people who have worked in other industries/ sectors that have the skills they are looking for. However a passion and interest for Animation, VFX and Games is definitely a bonus.

Applications must be over 18 and there is no upper age limit.

Each company will shortlist candidates from the applications submitted. They will contact candidates to arrange interview. Depending on the selections you made on the application (sectors & locations you wanted to submit an application to) it is very possible that you may be interviewed by more than one company.

If you are lucky enough to be selected as an intern by more than one company, TRC will place you based on feedback from each company on where your skillset will be best suited.
