Special Edition calls for Boardroom Balance in the Digital Sector

Applications are now open for Special Edition: a ‘life-changing’ professional development programme for women in Scotland’s digital and tech sector looking to progress their careers in the industry.

Special Edition is a six-month training programme delivered by TRC: a Glasgow-based training body for the broadcast and digital industries. Now in its seventh year of delivery, Special Edition was created in response to the under-representation of women at board level in the digital sector in Scotland. The programme has supported 42 women in Scotland’s digital sector since its launch in 2013, many of whom have gone on to secure significant job promotions and board appointments since completing the programme.

Funded by Scottish Enterprise, BBC Nations and Regions, Channel 4 and Screen Scotland, Special Edition comprises six monthly training sessions in Glasgow on topics including leadership skills, personal branding and goal setting, pitching with confidence, dealing with difficult conversations and work-life balance. The programme also includes a business trip to meet inspiring female leaders in the world of digital. The location of this year’s trip is yet to be announced, but previous delegates have visited London, Amsterdam and Berlin, gaining access to companies including Google, Dropbox, Amazon, TomTom and WeTransfer.

Margaret Scott and Claire Scally, Joint Managing Directors of TRC said:

“We believe that gender equality in the boardroom is paramount to the wider diversity of Scotland’s digital sector. Special Edition is one of our most successful training initiatives, which continually delivers results for our talented female delegates and can truly transform careers. We can’t wait to launch the next programme.”

Serina MacDonald, Head of Activation, Associate Director at Amplifi – part of the Dentsu Aegis Network and a delegate of Special Edition 2018/19 said:

“My Special Edition experience has been absolutely life-changing. I was promoted to a new and exciting role as a result of an opportunity I seized thanks only to confidence gained during the course. I have a whole new mindset and perspective that has changed how I think, how I feel about myself and what I have to offer the world. That’s the greatest outcome, and more than I ever expected.”

Special Edition applications open on 2nd July 2019 and close on 1st August. Full details on the programme and the link to apply can be found here.
