SuperSizer Delegates Announced!

Last year's SuperSizer delegates

We are excited to announce successful delegates of SuperSizer: a company-focused training programme for independent production companies based in the Nations and Regions.

Funded by BBC Nations and Regions, Channel 4, Creative Scotland and Scottish Enterprise and supported by Channel 5, the seven-month training programme will bring participants from throughout the UK together for monthly sessions with leading industry trainers and commissioning executives, reinforcing the importance of Development Executives as specialists who can boost businesses through creating returning series.

The programme comes at a key time for production companies based out of London, as Channel 4 weighs up bids for a new national HQ and broadcasters increase spend in the Nations and Regions.

The programme, with the full title of SuperSizer: Big Ideas for Returning Series, is running again in 2018/19 after a successful pilot last year which saw 3 commissions and multiple live pitches and treatments in the pipeline. Contributors to last year’s programme included commissioning editors Tim Hancock and Lucy Leveugle (Channel 4), Fatima Salaria (BBC) and Channel 5’s director of programmes Ben Frow.

David Kavanagh, Head of Development at Manchester-based indie Title Role Productions and delegate of last year’s programme said:

“SuperSizer provided exclusive access to commissioners in a relaxed training setting coupled with the opportunity to work alongside and learn from other experienced development executives. We’ve made invaluable new contacts and won a commission as a result of the programme.”

Margaret Scott and Claire Scally, joint Managing Directors of TRC, said:

“We launched SuperSizer last year to meet an identified need for more returnable series and ideas of scale from out of London. Now more than ever, Nations and Regions indies have an opportunity to show the broadcasters what they have to offer and we’re excited to have the support of broadcasters and the independent production community alike in launching the next edition of the programme.”
