Short Course: Wednesday 29th January 2020
You asked and we listened! In our recent TV training survey we asked what kind of short courses you’d like to see TRC deliver in 2020. The overwhelming first choice was Negotiation Skills for people working in TV, so we’re excited to say that we’ll be kicking off 2020 with training in an essential area of professional development. We’ll be introducing Gwenda Carnie as our trainer, who currently works as Legal Counsel and commercial advisor for the Flame Media Group.
Negotiation is a daily part of working in TV, even if we don’t immediately recognise it as such. Whether it’s commissioners, contributors, rights holders, colleagues or staff, knowing how to negotiate effectively is an essential skill for all levels of a production.
This one-day training programme will arm you with the knowledge and skills to successfully navigate daily and more challenging negotiations, giving you a framework to succeed. As ever, the training will be interactive and will allow you to integrate lessons into practice.

- How to negotiate with confidence
- How to prepare for a negotiation
- How to approach the other side and the importance of understanding the interests they need to protect
- How to come out with a sensible result
Who’s it for?
Project managers, heads of departments and senior executives working in the TV industry. This course is open to freelancers and those currently working with an independent production company.
How much?
£195 per participant
£145 for members of the TRC Network (Alumni of a TRC training programme) and freelancers.*

Who is the trainer?
Gwenda Carnie
Gwenda began her career as a lawyer at London media law firm, Reed Smith. After a short stint at MTV (involving lots of backstage festival going), Gwenda moved home to Cardiff to work as a media and commercial lawyer for law firm, Blake Morgan. Gwenda subsequently spent 10 years at BBC Wales as Senior Legal and Business Affairs Manager before moving on to consult for S4C, Lawyers on Demand and Wiggin. Gwenda currently works as Legal Counsel and commercial advisor for the Flame Media Group. Gwenda lives just outside Barry in South Wales with her husband, 3 surfing and skateboarding children, a dog, two cats and seven sheep.
