Join us for a panel discussion chaired by Tara Lynne O’Neill in partnership with Northern Ireland Screen featuring representatives from Buccaneer Media (“Crime”, “Whitstable Pearl”), Black Camel Pictures (“Annika”, “An t-Eilean / The Island”) and Triongl (“The Light in The Hall / Y Golau”) as we delve into the dark and gripping world of TV crime dramas.
The session will explore the process of producing crime drama which deals with themes such as loyalty, betrayal, justice, redemption, and revenge. It will highlight the importance of purposeful storytelling, while tackling the unexpected plot twists that come with producing a successful dramatic crime series.
The event will provide a unique opportunity to hear from industry experts and network with fellow Northern Irish producers and writers, ranging from indie filmmakers to TV companies looking to move into network or high-end drama.
This event is part of TRC’s new advanced industry programme International Horizons: Scripted aimed at supporting scripted drama companies in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.
International Horizons: Scripted is funded by the BFI awarding National Lottery funding, Creative Wales, Northern Ireland Screen and Screen Scotland.

Meet the Panel
Tony Wood
CEO, Buccaneer Media
Tony Wood has been involved in the production of over 3000 hours of television across drama, soap opera, children’s, comedy and reality.
He is a former Head of Continuing Series for ITV Network; Executive Producer, BBC Drama; Producer, “Coronation Street”; Creative Director, Lime Pictures – where he co-created “The Only Way Is Essex”.
In 2013 Tony founded Buccaneer where he has created a portfolio of strongly authored global productions including Hans Rosenfeldt’s “Marcella”, Irvine Welsh’s “Crime”, “The Doll Factory”; “Whitstable Pearl”; “The Burning Girls” (starring Samantha Morton); “So Long Marianne” and the latest Paramount+ hit, “The Crow Girl”.
The company has series in development or prep with ITV, Paramount+, BBC and is proud to be here in Belfast, filming the new drama, “In Flight” for Channel 4.
Arabella Page Croft
Producer, Black Camel
Arabella is a leading Scottish producer, executive producer and director. She runs Black Camel Pictures with her producer partner Kieran Parker. The company is currently in pre-production with “Gifted”, a 10 x 30′ new kids action adventure series for CBBC and ARD in Germany. They are in post production with “An t-Eilean / The Island” (4 x 50’), the first HETV family crime drama for BBC ALBA. She executive produces both shows.
Arabella executive produced “Annika” for UKTV & PBS Masterpiece, starring Nicola Walker. The series aired on UKTV’s Alibi in August 2021 to rave reviews and record viewership on the channel. The show was acquired by BBC One and iPlayer. Arabella also executive produces the award-winning children’s animation series “The Brilliant World of Tom Gates” by Liz Pichon, which premiered on Sky Kids and has now run to three series.
Feature film credits include “Falling for Figaro” starring Dani Macdonald & Joanna Lumley, “Sunshine on Leith” starring Jane Horrocks and Peter Mullan, “Legacy” starring Idris Elba and action horror trilogy “Outpost” (I,II,III) starring Ray Stevenson.
Arabella executive produces and directs “Float” (6 x 10′), an award-winning YA queer series for BBC Scotland & BBC iPlayer.
Gethin Scourfield
Co-Creative Director, Triongl
Gethin is Co-creative Director at Triongl, a leading Welsh production company. Recent productions include “Y Golau/The Light in The Hall” a back to back (dual language) production which screened on S4C, Channel 4 and Sundance Now and was Channel 4’s best performing drama of 2023.
He has worked in the television and film industry since the early 80s, co-founding successful Welsh production companies Criw Byw and Boda before joining the BBC as an Executive Producer in 2001. After leaving the BBC he worked as a freelance producer and director.
Credits include international hit detective drama “Y Gwyll/Hinterland” (BBC4/S4C/All3Media International) and “The Miniaturist” (BBC1/ WGBH). Gethin was acting commissioning editor for drama at S4C from May 2017 to May 2018, where he was Executive Producer on “Un Bore Mercher/Keeping Faith” (S4C/BBC), “Bang!” (S4C/BBC) and “Craith/Hidden” (S4C/BBC4).

Tara Lynne O’Neill is a highly acclaimed Irish actress and writer from Northern Ireland. Known for her performances across film, television, and theatre, she has become a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. Tara Lynne is best known for her role in the award-winning sitcom “Derry Girls”. O’Neill’s impressive resume extends beyond television, with notable appearances in films such as “Disco Pigs” .As well as her television and film roles, Tara Lynne also wrote and starred in her own production, “Rough Girls,” which premiered at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast. Most recently, Tara Lynne will be in two upcoming BBC series “Hope Street” and ITV series “The Bay”.
