On Friday 11th November we attended the inaugural Techaus Fest at SWG3. A joint venture launched by Equator and Digital Media Meetups, the event showcased a host of Scottish digital media talent with the aim of inspiring and challenging the new wave of digital champions. Attended by industry professionals and media students alike, the jam-packed full day event was a hub for new ideas, new technology and new contacts.
It was a real treat for TRC to see so many companies and individuals we’ve worked with in attendance and involved in the organisation of such a successful event. One of our current Special Edition delegates Kaye Symington of Paved with Gold was invited along as a speaker, focusing her speech on building brands and communities using unconventional financing models. The talk was an informative and entertaining insight into the world of crowdfunding and building communities through digital means. Perhaps we’re biased, but Kaye nailed it! Here’s what she had to say on how Special Edition helped her with the big moment:
“When I first approached TRC about Special Edition my biggest goal was to speak at a conference, something I’d been terrified to do. Only 3 months into our programme I felt ready to tackle this head on. While I was still nervous, I felt I had all the tools I needed to get up on that stage, speak confidently and celebrate the work that my team and I have done over the past few years. I knew my fellow Special Edition cohort were cheering me on, I genuinely don’t think I could have done it without the support of them and TRC.”

The day was packed with insightful talks like Kaye’s as well as workshops and demonstrations, acting to both celebrate and challenge the current digital scene in Scotland. Here’s to the next one!
