Meet the Delegates: Cross Creative 2017

Posted by on Mar 22, 2017

After a six month training programme at the TRCmedia offices in Glasgow, seven of Scotland’s leading digital media professionals are heading out to San Francisco and Silicon Valley to meet some of the world’s most exciting and innovative tech companies. We caught up with the delegates before the trip to find out their highlights of the programme so far and to look ahead to the San Fran trip.

ben-hBen Hutton

Client Services Director, xDesign

xDesign is an app development company – focusing on producing software that lives in your pocket.

Increasingly our work has taken an enterprise focus and this has helped us more than double in size in the last couple of years. We now count, PayPal, the World Health Organisation, Abellio, and NHS Scotland amongst our clients. Most recently we have begun a process of producing our own products and IP.

I primarily deal with ideation, solutioning, creative problem solving and pitches – as well as the elements that go with being a Director/part owner of a business.

What has been your highlight of the programme so far?

The negotiation week. We were able to immediately apply this to our business and it increased our profitability on an existing project.

What excites you most about the San Francisco trip?

Access to the real versions of people. It’s like being able to reach into your monitor weird science style and connect with people and organisations normally only followed online.

Any advice for those considering applying to Cross Creative in the future?

If you want to be a better version of yourself you should apply.

marcus-fMarcus Fields
Joint Managing Director, School Cloud Systems

School Cloud Systems is an award-winning software company providing web-based products used in over 2,500 schools in the UK and worldwide.

Marcus started the business aged 16 with a high school friend, Robbie Beattie, after selling an online booking system to their school. Ran as a hobby while in high school and University, we were praised for exceptional customer service and even signed a reseller agreement with FTSE 100 company along the way.

Now several years post University, we have a team of 10 and are setting our sights on the international market.

nathan-fNathan Fulwood
Founder and Strategy Director, CreateFuture

CreateFuture is a digital brand engagement agency based in Edinburgh. We launched in April 2016. We offer creative, brand and business strategy. We work on-site with our clients, alongside their existing teams. We practice an unusual level of openness and honesty, co-creating strategies that can be tested quickly.

The approach, while still being refined, has been well received. We are working with clients across the UK and US including Penguin Books, Prudential, Hymans Robertson, SCUF Gaming and a few others.

We have 5 staff, and a small number of experienced, senior consultants to support us. We don’t do production but have a close family of partners across the UK.

I typically focus on the business and technical aspects of a client’s strategy, but I’m a proud generalist so I’m as happy developing creative as I am a business case.

Why did you apply for Cross Creative?

To connect & learn from my peers and be inspired by who we meet in San Francisco.

What has been the highlight of the programme so far?

Action learning and Leadership training, plus learning from my course mates.

Any advice for those considering applying to Cross Creative in the future?

Be honest on your application, as you’ll get the most out of being honest if you get on the course.
