On June 11th we hosted a Creative Breakfast entitled:
Augmented and Virtual: a new reality for the creative industries?
The Oculus Rift gets all the headlines but Microsoft, Sony and a host of Silicon Valley start-ups are racing to market with head-mounted displays. Gartner predicts more than 25 million unit sales by 2018 as immersive devices and virtual worlds transition from the fringe to the mainstream. But what does this mean for creative businesses when immersive 360-degree 3D experiences are coming to the workplace, living room and cinema?
Soluis, based in Glasgow and London, is a leading pioneer in developing commercial applications for Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality technology. To a full house at the Citizen M hotel, CEO Martin McDonnell (who was a delegate on our most recent Cross Creative programme) delivered an awe-inspiring industry briefing on these emergent technologies, including an historical review, a round-up of current applications, and a smart glance into the future.
The Soluis team also kindly set up some stunning demos using Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR and Google cardboard for our audience. A big hit!
